Automatic

It's our goal that kindergarten students get to know the Soundabet sounds so well that recalling them is almost automatic. When this goal is reached blending the Soundabet sounds into words gets much easier.

To that end I am keeping track of how fast a student can correctly identify all 41 Soundabet sounds. So far this year Robert (who came into kindergarten with good early reading skills) holds this year's classroom record at 1 minute and 23 seconds.

I find, too, that injecting a bit of competition into the equation tends to get the boys especially interested in honing their early reading skills.

Here is a picture of Robert next to the place on the board showing his record:

Have a good weekend.

Be well.
