Today was Raegan's day. She shared a book about raisins. It seemed like a lot of the students did not know where raisins come from, and were surprised to learn that they're just sun-dried grapes. It's the sort of fact that we adults learned so long ago that it might not occur to us that a child might not know. The end of the book included some simple recipes using grapes as an ingredient, like the well-loved "Ants-on-a-Log" and trail mix.
The class really seemed to enjoy Raegan's book.
I'm making my way through the first trimester assessments. I'm right at that point where I've begun the task, worked hard, and mostly aware of how many more there are to go. It would feel daunting, but then I've been up the mountain enough times to know I will get it all done by conference time.
With apologies for repeating myself please excuse another reminder about Thursday:
Please note that our usual schedule will change to accomodate the PTO's Walk-a-Thon on Thursday, November 10.
On Thursday kindergarten students will stay through lunch and the afternoon. Dismissal will be at 2:30. Please provide your child with a lunch. You can order one of the school lunches or you can send one along to school with your child that morning.
This event will pre-empt KIDS club.
Here, from Room Mother, Alicia Petersen:
"The PTO is putting on the annual Walk-a-Thon. This is one of Dunham's biggest fundraisers of the year. The Walk-a-Thon will take place on Thursday, November 10, 2011 from 1 - 2:30. The kids will start getting ready at 12:45 and start walking at 1:20 or so, and they will walk for an hour."
