November 1 and 2

Really busy these days. Meetings.

Here's a quick post to update you on kindergarten doings.

Tuesday's lesson on ER, IR, UR spellings or that sound

"ROOSTER" has both the initial R and the ending ER

Maintaining the pocket chart. Kids do this without my asking.

We used 2 dice for "Roll and Read" this morning.
The Kookaburra song seems to have dropped out of the preschool songbook. It used to be almost universal. I can guess why....

In math we talked about rulers and how they're used to measure a unit we call "a foot." Rulers are too long to match a five year old foot, as you can see here.

These rulers are longer than this shoe.

The rulers are about the same length as this shoe....

Our mat proved to be 14 rulers (feet)  long

and about eight rulers wide.
Jokes and Riddles

Most five year old children can begin to see the humor in jokes using language. Telling jokes is a good way to amp up verbal intelligence.

We made up some jokes today.

Here they are.

See if your child can tell you the answers.

Or better yet, ask them if they can give you a riddle about November.

(I'll leave it to readers to post the answers in the comments section.)

What is the opposite of November?

Why is C afraid of B?

Why is D afraid of C?

Hopefully it won't start raining until after lunch tomorrow because it is bike day.

Be well.
