Reflection: Lesson Plans

In preparing for battle, I have found that planning is essential, but plans are useless.
– Dwight D. Eisenhower
In my experience as a teacher, I have found that in preparing to teach, planning is essential.

Once the lesson is underway, lesson plans are useless.

I love this post. I am working on lessons plans as we speak. 5 weeks worth.

5 weeks! Yikes. That's a looong time. While I have a plan for the year it's pretty flexible. I plan weeks and days, but seldom more than two weeks out.

Me too; but our principal wants to see them. Another rarity.

You should ask to see his/her five week plan, if any.... or at least quote Eisenhower to him/her.

Love it...and your suggestion to S.Parker!

Thanks Gayle. Sometimes it takes guts to "wing it" but all my best lessons have been improvisational, more like Jazz than Mozart.

Hey, steven, coming from a teacher as talented as you, that's a real endorsement of the idea. Thanks.
