Swings and other good Things

I stood beside the swingset
Watching two girls swinging highly—
One of them was Angeline,
The other one was Kailee.*

*Kailee will tell you—just in case you're not sure—that Kailee rhymes with highly.)

Did the girls make up that rhyme?
I know kids love to here songs with their names in it....

No, I made it up. That day rhymes were flowing through me like magic. Some days are like that. If you can speak to your class in rhyme they really love it and listen closely. The gift of rhyming is kind of rare for me, but when it clicks in I love it.

I make up rhymes with kids, too...
I put their names in them and kids light up.
There is nothing like personalizing a gift to someone....
Music & rhymes trigger different areas of the brain. I have worked with some children that would only respond to rhymes or music when I worked with them. I love it!

Hi, Barbra,

I sure wish I had been more aware of what you're saying long ago. It IS very powerful to sing and rhyme. Singing I got; I've been singing all along. But my appreciation of rhyming is still just developing. Kudos to you for knowing this!
